Expressways: Having the second largest road network worldwide, India has witnessed a huge increase in its road connectivity in recent years. In a major development, an access-controlled expressway connectivity between Mumbai and Kolkata may soon become a reality.
India has the second-largest road network in the world, and in recent years, there has been a significant increase in road connectivity. As the nation's infrastructure projects continue to grow in number. Similarly, a number of highway projects and high-speed economic corridors are planned to increase the amount of roads in India.
The possibility of having access-controlled motorway connectivity between Kolkata and Mumbai shortly is a significant development. According to a report in the media, a number of future motorways that connect various cities along the way are expected to connect Mumbai and Kolkata by 2028.
The four expressways that facilitate this connectivity include the Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway, Nagpur-Bhandara-Gondia Expressway, Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor and Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway.
However, these are awaiting official confirmation from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). These speculations come after the proposal of the Nagpur-Bhandara-Gondiya Expressway, also known as the Eastern Maharashtra Expressway.
The Mumbai–Nagpur Samriddhi Motorway will be extended by the 127-kilometer Eastern Maharashtra Motorway. which will link the Maharashtra districts of Gondia, Bhandara, and Nagpur. With the new motorway, the four to five hours it currently takes to travel between Nagpur and Gondia should be reduced to about two hours. Travelling between Mumbai and Kolkata will be considerably simpler and faster if the proposed project is approved.
