Just before the Indian team's tour of Sri Lanka, a sensational case of brutal murder of a Sri Lankan former cricketer by shooting in front of his wife and children came to light. According to local media reports, 41-year-old former Sri Lankan cricketer Dhammika Niroshana was murdered on Tuesday night at his residence in Ambalangoda, a small town in Galle district. The killer is said to be an unknown person. The local police are investigating the case and searching for the accused.

According to the local police, Niroshan was present in his house with his wife and two children. Meanwhile, an unknown person shot him, causing his death. The police have not yet been able to catch the suspect. At present, the case is being thoroughly investigated from many angles. However, the motive behind this murder has not been known yet.

Dhammika Niroshan was a right-arm fast bowler and all-rounder. Niroshan was regarded as an emerging talent during his playing career. From 2001 to 2004, he played 12 first-class and 8 List-A matches for Galle Cricket Club, hitting over 300 runs and taking 19 wickets.

Dhammika Niroshan made his debut for Sri Lanka's Under-19 side in 2000, and he played Under-19 Tests and ODIs for two years. He also captained the Sri Lanka Under-19 team for ten games. Players such as Parvez Maharoof, Angelo Mathews, and Upul Tharanga have played under his tutelage. However, Niroshan's career never took off, and he played his final professional match in December 2004.
