Big change coming in Jammu and Kashmir: for the first time appointment of teachers from other states in medical colleges; JKPSC issued an order
There has been a big change in Jammu and Kashmir after decades. For the first time, the government has decided to appoint teachers from states other than Jammu and Kashmir to the posts of faculty in government medical colleges and dental colleges. The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has issued orders in this regard.
The posts of faculty in the medical colleges of Jammu and Kashmir are lying vacant for a long time. There are a total of 14 Government Medical Colleges (GMC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir Division has one Government Medical College each in Baramulla, Anantnag and two in Srinagar. Jammu Division has one Government Medical College each in Rajouri, Kathua, Doda, and Udhampur and three in Jammu.
There is one super specialty hospital each in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a private medical college operating in Jammu. There is no private college in Kashmir right now. More than 50% of the faculty posts are lying vacant in all the GMCs of Jammu and Kashmir. According to an estimate, more than 500 faculty posts are currently vacant in the medical colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. It is learned that in most of the departments and super specialty hospitals of Jammu GMC, no faculty has been appointed since 2012.
Big changes are also taking place in the field of education in Jammu and Kashmir. Three and a half years ago, all posts in government educational institutions were reserved for local people only. Now both professional and non-professional seats have been opened for non-locals from other states as well. According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, there are about 32 thousand students from other states of the country in Jammu and Kashmir.
After curbing terrorism, students from other states are coming to study in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier students from other states used to shy away from coming to Jammu and Kashmir. Now Srinagar NIT, NIFT, Central University of Jammu and Srinagar have a large number of students from other states. Earlier, students of Jammu and Kashmir used to go to other states of the country and abroad for studies. The campus was more or less deserted. Now most of them are studying here.
The situation was different in Jammu and Kashmir during the time of Article 370. Due to 370, there was a provision to give appointments in medical colleges only to the original residents. After the abolition of Article 370, now appointments can be given on the basis of merit from other states of the country.
