Food and drink available in theaters may be cheaper, next week may be a big decision on GST

The GST Council is likely to exempt tax on the individually imported drug dinutuximab used in the treatment of cancer in its meeting on Tuesday. Also, a decision can be taken to reduce GST on food or beverages served in cinema halls.
The Council, headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, may also decide on GST exemption for satellite launch services provided by private companies. Apart from this, the definition of useful vehicles may also be clarified for a levy of 22 percent cess.
The Fitment Committee on Tax Assessment has advised the Council to clarify these matters in its 50th meeting to be held on 11th July. In addition to the recommendations of the Committee, the Council will also consider the report of the Group of Ministers on Online Gaming.
Also, will finalize the framework for setting up of Appellate Tribunal and will also consider the demand of the industry to fully compensate Central GST and 50 percent of Integrated GST in 11 hill states under the scheme of budgetary support.
Explain that the Group of Ministers (GoM) has agreed to impose GST on online gaming, horse racing, and casino at the rate of 28 percent, but Goa has not agreed on the tax on online gaming. Goa has suggested levying 18 percent GST on platform fees.
