Due to economic disruptions, the growth of the FMCG industry slowed down to 3.8 percent in the June quarter. Its effect came in the form of low sales of packaged salt, wheat flour, and palm oil. The industry growth was 7.5 percent in the same period last year, while the growth rate in the March quarter was 6.5 percent.

According to data analytics firm NielsenQ, urban consumption growth declined from 5.7 percent to 2.8 percent in the first quarter of the current financial year, while rural growth has come down to 5.2 percent from 7.6 percent in the previous quarter.

Sales growth in traditional trade, including grocery stores, has come down and has fallen to 3.1 percent during the quarter ending June versus 5.6 percent a quarter ago. Now, talking about the FMCG category, non-food growth stood at 7.6 percent during the June quarter.
