A farmer got an amount of Rs 16 lakh in his bank account due to a mistaken identity in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. However, he refused to return the amount deposited by mistake, after which the bank has sought police intervention.

This incident took place in the Arni police station area of Kishangarh, where farmer Kanaram Jat, a resident of Chhota Lamba village, got a huge amount in his account from the Bank of Baroda. Jat happily used Rs 15 lakh to repay his personal loan.

The mistake came to light when the bank found out that the amount paid as a crop insurance premium for New India Insurance Company was mistakenly transferred to Jat's account on December 31.

Bank of Baroda manager Jitendra Thakur said in his complaint lodged at the Arni police station on Tuesday evening, "On December 31, a transaction of Rs 16 lakh was mistakenly made in the account of farmer Kanaram Jat. This amount was for New India Insurance Company but was mistakenly transferred to Jat's bank account. This amount was for crop insurance premium."

Thakur further said, "Initially our employees were not aware of this mistake. There was a lot of commotion when the mistake was discovered." The bank manager said that Jat made three separate transactions of Rs 5 lakh each between January 2 and 4 and withdrew Rs 15 lakh for personal use.

Thakur said the bank administration came to know about this on January 10. We contacted the farmer and asked him to return the money, but he refused.

Jat, on his part, said he has already used the money to repay his loan. The bank is now taking the legal route to recover the money.

"Kanaram Jat's Kisan Credit Card and documents of 16 bighas of land are with the bank. If he does not return the money, we will be forced to recover Rs 16 lakh by auctioning his land," Thakur said.

Police station in-charge Ramswaroop Jat confirmed that the case is under investigation. "We are investigating the matter and will take the farmer's account details to arrive at a solution," he said.
