Family murdered for not giving nude pictures: Officer in America burnt minor's house, used to chat as 17 years old
A government official in the US committed suicide after killing three people. Austin Lee Edwards, a 28-year-old Virginia officer, posed as a 17-year-old boy on social media to talk to a girl. By trapping the girl in the trap of his love, he acquired much personal information including her family and address. Later he asked the girl to send her nude pictures, then the girl stopped talking to him.
Enraged, Edwards drove from Virginia to the girl's home in California. There he first killed the girl's mother and grandparents. After which the girl's house was also set on fire. After the incident, Edwards shot and killed himself during a shootout with San Bernardino police officers. The victim girl was saved there.
Edwards was the sheriff's deputy of Virginia. The sheriff is the high official of the district who has the responsibility for the whole district. Sheriff's spokeswoman Gloria Huerta said the accident was under investigation. Investigators said Edwards used his government semi-automatic service pistol in the suicide.
However, the Riverside Police Department, which is probing the murder of the girl's family members, has remained tight-lipped. Police have not shared information about how the girl's family members were murdered.
Edwards was a soldier in Virginia before becoming a deputy sheriff. Virginia government agencies have said that prior to hiring Edwards, they found no indication of his criminal record. But in 2016, a report was filed with the Abingdon Police Department in Virginia.
According to the report, in 2016, Edwards threatened to commit suicide by killing his father. After this, he was taken into custody to check his mental condition. Even after this, he was kept in a government job. Following the revelations, the Virginia State Police stated that there was a human error during the hiring of Edwards. Due to this, his police records were not seen.
