Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Dipankar Datta on Monday sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court.

 

DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India Administered the oath of office to Justice Datta. The Department of Justice in the Union Law Ministry issued a notification announcing the appointment of Justice Datta as the top court judge on Sunday.

 

The Department of Justice in the Union Law Ministry issued a notification announcing the appointment which said that In exercise of the powers conferred by clause of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is glad to appoint Shri Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, to be the Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect.

 

Justice Datta who is now 57 years old will have a nearly eight-year tenure in the Supreme court until his retirement at the age of 65 in February 2030.
