Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, may have entered the AI field late, but it is getting up to speed fast. In the last couple of months, the company has added a function-calling capability to its Large Language Models (LLMs), rolled out an API for developers, and started testing a free AI model. According to the latest reports, very soon, xAI will come up with a ChatGPT-like separate chatbot app competing with OpenAI.
According to media reports, Musk aims to develop Grok AI as an independent product. The report claims that xAI may soon launch a chatbot app for Grok, which will be similar to ChatGPT. Currently, Grok AI is only available through X (formerly Twitter) and can only be used by X Premium and Premium+ subscribers.
The report also states that Musk's larger aim is to challenge OpenAI and present its products and services as a strong alternative to ChatGPT in every area. However, Grok lacks several key features such as image generation, voice support, and agentic AI, which are available in major rivals like Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft.
