Earthquake in Morocco: Rescue team-Israel preparing to send relief material, more than 1 thousand people died

More than 1 thousand people died in the earthquake that occurred in the North African country Morocco on Friday. There has been a huge loss of life and property. The earthquake also caused heavy damage to the UNESCO-protected World Heritage Monument located in Marrakesh city. Amidst all this, Israel has started preparing to send search and rescue personnel and humanitarian aid.

"Following the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed all government bodies and forces to provide all necessary assistance to the people of Morocco, including assistance in the field," Israel said in a statement Saturday. Preparations for sending the delegation are also included.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Atlas Mountains, southwest of Marrakesh, and its intensity was measured at 6.8 on the Richter scale. According to the Moroccan Interior Ministry, more than 1,000 people were injured. Its number is likely to increase further.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Yoav Galant has instructed the Israel Defense Forces to 'be ready to provide immediate emergency assistance through rescue bodies in the Home Front Command.'

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that so far, there have been no reports of Israeli casualties. Is engaged in contacting Israelis in Morocco to ensure the safety of Israeli citizens. The ministry also said Dorit Avidani, the Israeli consul in Rabat, has been sent to the western Moroccan region to assess needs.
