E-commerce company Amazon Inc has announced layoffs

E-commerce company Amazon Inc has announced layoffs. "We are facing an unusual and uncertain macroeconomic environment," the company's hardware chief Dave Limp wrote in a memo to workers on Wednesday. Therefore, upon review, we have recently decided to consolidate some teams and programs. Due to this, now we will not need some positions.
'I am deeply saddened to report this news as we know we will be losing a talented Amazonian from the Devices and Services division as a result,' Limp said. He added that the company has informed affected employees and will continue to work closely with each individual to provide assistance, including assistance with finding new jobs.
The New York Times published a report this week stating that Amazon is planning to lay off 10,000 employees. According to the figures of 31 December 2021, Amazon has more than 16 lakh full-time and part-time employees. The layoff of 10,000 employees is the biggest layoff in Amazon's history. The reason for the layoffs has been attributed to cost-cutting due to the economic slowdown.
According to an internal memo sent to a top Amazon executive, the company also announced a hiring freeze last week. At the same time, Jamie Zhang, a software engineer working at Amazon, shared a post on LinkedIn telling his connections that he had been fired from the company.
Employees were asked to find jobs elsewhere The Wall Street Journal report also said that the company has asked employees working in some of its unprofitable units to find jobs elsewhere. This is because many of the company's projects may be closed, or suspended soon.
Beth Galetti, senior vice president of People Experience and Technology at the company, said in a memo that despite the hiring freeze, the company will make new hires for "targeted projects" as well as replace employees who leave on their own.
The note said, 'We are facing an unusual macroeconomic environment. Within this environment, we seek to balance our hiring and investments. This is not the first time, we have faced challenging economies many times before.
The company is promoting the use of robots in many units to do work. About 3 quarters of the packets that are delivered currently pass through some kind of robotic system. Amazon Robotics Chief Ty Brady said that packaging could be 100% robotic systems in the next 5 years. He indicated that in the future, robots will replace human employees, but it will take a long time.
