DS Group Receives 20th FICCI CSR Award in Environment Sustainability Category

DS Group has been awarded by Arjun Munda, Hon'ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, under the 20th FICCI CSR Awards in the Environment Sustainability category for Water Economic Zone, a water conservation project at Udaipur, Rajasthan. The FICCI CSR Awards recognize the efforts made by a company in engaging and adopting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajeev Kumar, Vice Chairman, of DS Group said, “We are honoured to receive the award for our water conservation efforts. The whole world is concerned about water scarcity and India is home to 16% of the world's population while Only four percent of the world's drinking water (freshwater) resources are there.
Water is essential for our socioeconomic development and sustainable ecosystem. Therefore, we are always making conservation efforts with the aim of ensuring water availability and stress on judicious use of natural resources, which in turn also ensures better employment opportunities and improvement in economic conditions.
The Water Economic Zone (WEZ) was launched in 2018. It focuses on the conservation of natural resources, especially water and soil enrichment, which results in the replenishment of underground water and also increases the irrigation potential of the concerned geographical area. As a result, the living conditions of the people improve.
Through this project, the company envisages and has taken up the task of treating about 11000 hectares of land in the Aligarh and Kurabad watersheds in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. The project also promotes better water use by adopting better irrigation practices such as drip irrigation and rain guns, as well as growing climate-friendly crops.
Keeping in mind the importance of water for livelihood and excellence in WEZ projects, DS Group has constructed/renovated more than 900 water harvesting structures. They have the capacity to store about 80 lacks of water. As a result, 2300 hectares of land have come under irrigation.
After the success of the Water Economic Zone project in Udaipur, DS Group has started in other states as well. Presently this group is doing this water-related initiative in 6 states of India- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat which is benefiting lakhs of people.
