Devika, a contemporary Indian singer who is based in the US, makes a stunning return with a lo-fi video single
Grammy-submitted singer Devika is back with the soulful lo-fi Punjabi single Dil Tenu. Devika is known for memorable songs like Kehnde Ne Naina, Barkhaa Bahaar, and Ek Tera Pyar (with Bohemia). Along with her spirited collaborations with a variety of artists, the versatile artist is renowned for the old-world charm that her renditions carry.
Devika worked with US Based producer Holmes Ives on electronic Indian ballads including Jab Se Piya which was subsequently remixed by Karsh Kale, Midival Punditz and Bombay Dub Orchestra. Jab Se Piya was also submitted by Six Degrees Records for a Grammy consideration in the Best Global Music Performance category. Her other collaborations include music with Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash and Mike Klooster of Smash Mouth.
Devika, who is renowned for her distinctive voice and soulful songs, teams up with Mumbai-based producer Jayhaan of Desi Jersey Club on the song Dil Tenu, which features dialogue about love, heartbreak, and memories set to post-internet lo-fi, chill beats. Devika's raw and melancholic vocals cascade against coastal rocks in the video's clear beach scenes, exuding a sense of summer ease.
The US San Francisco Bay Area was the location of the music video, which brings to mind Devika's original Barkha Bahaar from her second solo album Saari Raat. Dil Tenu is a classic modern Indian summer song, like a cool breeze on a summer day, with stirring guitar chords and a straightforward groove.
The song Kehnde Ne Naina from her debut album, Devika, was very popular; it was played on MTV India for more than a year and eventually made it to Sony Music's best-selling compilation, Teri Deewani.
Teri Deewani featured a long list of some of the best performers in the Sufi/folk genre, including Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rekha Bharadwaj, Rahat Fateh.
