Delimitation of 250 wards of Delhi Municipal Corporation completed: 42 wards reserved for scheduled castes, election dates may be announced soon
The delimitation work of 250 wards of Delhi Municipal Corporation has been completed. Now there will be 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of the capital, out of which 42 communities will be reserved for Scheduled Castes. The central government has issued a notification for this. With the completion of the delimitation, the way has been cleared for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, and the dates for the elections can be announced soon. Before this, the State Election Commission of Delhi will identify and reserve seats for women and scheduled castes, then it will be notified. Earlier the number of wards in MCD was 272. At the same time, the Center had fixed the maximum number of seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at 250. Municipal elections will be held for the first time after integrating 3 municipal corporations of the city.
According to media reports, the Delimitation Committee has submitted an 800-page report to the Central Government. After this, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to give the powers to reserve the wards to the State Election Commission. Demands were made on the draft delimitation report from September 12 to October 3.
