Don't allow drug addicts to board the plane: Delhi Women's Commission's advice- Install CCTV, staff should be sensitive in case of sexual harassment
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has written a letter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in view of incidents of misbehaviour and aggressive behaviour of passengers during air travel. DCW has advised that the limit of alcohol on the flight should be fixed. Do not allow heavy drinkers to enter the flight. CCTV should be installed in the aircraft. Staff should be sensitive in cases of sexual abuse.
In a letter to the DGCA, the DCW said, 'Recently there have been 2 reports of misbehaviour with passengers in the media. This, on 26 November 2022, a male passenger urinated on a 70-year-old woman. The incident took place on an Air India flight coming from New York to Delhi. The second incident took place on 6 December 2022. In this, a passenger urinated on the seat of a fellow female passenger. This Air India flight was coming from Paris to Delhi. In both incidents, it emerged that the male passengers were heavily intoxicated.
The DCW had sent notices to the DGCA on both these matters. Was asked what action has been taken. After these incidents, information was also sought about the guidelines issued by the DGCA to the airlines. After this, DGCA sent a copy of the guideline and advisory to DCW. DCW says that no guidelines were specifically issued to the airlines in this.
The DCW said that it was also not told how to handle such cases, how to report them, or what to do in case a female passenger is sexually assaulted. There was also no mention of what steps should be taken if a passenger is heavily intoxicated. Now DCW has sent many recommendations to DGCA so that proper and strict action can be taken on the incidents of misbehaviour.
