Delhi Murder: Killer Caught For Lying After He Chopped Girlfriend's Body

How did Aftab Poonawala, accused of killing his live-in companion Shraddha Walkar and dispersing her pieces in a forest six months ago, eventually be taken into custody for murder? According to the police, he created a trail of Instagram interactions and money transfers to suggest that she had left on her own, but the route actually led to him.

At first, Aftab Poonawala was interrogated on October 26 after Shraddha Walkar's father contacted the police in Vasai, close to Mumbai, last month. After an argument on May 22, he told the police that she had left their rental apartment in Chhatarpur in Delhi's Mehrauli neighbourhood.

It was then determined that he had already murdered her four days earlier. They had just moved to Delhi two weeks prior to this.

Investigators followed the phone's activity, call history, and signal location after he told the police she had only taken her mobile phone, leaving her clothes and other possessions behind.

They discovered that between May 22 and May 26, ₹54,000 had been moved using Shraddha Walkar's phone's banking app from her account to Aftab Poonawala's. The place was Chhatarpur in Mehrauli, close to where they had previously shared housing. He had earlier informed the police that he hadn't spoken to her "ever since she left on May 22," which raised concerns.
