Pakistan's first transgender news anchor was fatally attacked. Two assailants opened fire on Marvia Malik, who was returning after buying medicines in Lahore. However, Marvia was not hit by the bullet and survived. Marvia says that she always raises her voice for transgender people. That is why they have been attacked.
According to Pakistani media Geo News, Marvia had recently given a statement on the Transgender Person Protection Rights Act. Since then, he was getting death threats. He was attacked on the night of 23 February. This matter has come to the fore after the FIR was registered. According to reports, she was in Lahore for some surgery.
In September 2022, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) said – Transgender Person Protection Rights Act 2018 is not according to Sharia law. Many of its provisions are against Islamic principles. This act can create many problems in society.
CII had said that a committee should be formed by the government to review the laws related to the transgender community. CII members, religious scholars and legal and medical experts should be included in the committee. Marvia reacted to this.
In 2018, at the age of 21, Marvia became Pakistan's first transgender anchor. He was born in Lahore only. But when she made public about being transgender, she did not get support and left Lahore. Some time ago, in an interview given to Geo News, he described himself as an example for not only transgender but everyone.
He had said – I am an example for all. If transgenders can work in the media and fashion industry, they can work anywhere. Marvia said that her example gives a message of peace and raises awareness in the country.
