CSK changed captain in amidst of IPL 2025, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was made the captain again for this reason

The journey of five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has taken another hit. In the meanwhile, they have endured an immense loss. The regular captain of the team Rituraj Gaikwad is ruled out for the whole IPL season because of an injury. In Gaikwad's absence, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead the rest of the season's games.

Rituraj Gaikwad has been forced out of IPL 2025 following an elbow injury. He got injured in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) when his elbow was hit by a fast bowler's ball. In spite of this, Rituraj played in the following two games against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, a recent scan has confirmed an elbow fracture.

Confirming Gaikwad's ouster, CSK coach Stephen Fleming said, "As far as replacement is concerned, we have very few options in the team. We have not yet taken a final decision on anyone. Dhoni was ready to take charge of the team and he understood very well why this responsibility was being entrusted to him."

Dhoni left the captaincy of Chennai before the 2022 season. After which Ravindra Jadeja was made the captain of the team. But after the poor performance of the team, Ravindra Jadeja was removed in the middle of the season and MS Dhoni was made the captain again. Dhoni last captained Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 IPL final. On the basis of his leadership ability, he made Chennai Super Kings a five-time IPL champion. In the 2024 season, Chennai Super Kings appointed Rituraj Gaikwad as the new captain of the team. Under the captaincy of Rituraj, the team finished fifth in the points table last season.
