CRPF giving weapons training to villagers after the killing of 7 Hindus in Dangri

CRPF is imparting weapons training to Village Defense Guards (VDG) in Rajouri. They are being given training in modern rifle SLR. Terrorists killed 7 Hindus in Dangri village of Rajouri. After this, the villagers demanded that they be given weapons.
Now CRPF has organized camps to select those people who wanted to be a part of VDG. They are being given training. Firing practice took place at Mahadev Maneka firing range in the Sunderbani sector on Tuesday. More than 50 people from villages near LOC participated.
Following the recent attacks, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has asked the VDG to be on alert ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. There is apprehension that terrorists may disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the Jammu region. Hence VDGs have become active in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts as well as on the India-Pakistan International Border (IB).
The process of questioning in connection with the attack continued for the ninth day on Tuesday. So far more than 50 have been detained. A massive search operation is also underway to trace the terrorists. Police posters have also been put up at many places in the district, in which a reward of 10 lacks has been announced for those who give information about terrorists.
After the attack, Village Defense Committee (VDC) camps were organized in several villages of the Rajouri district on 5 January. In this, a list of names of those people who wanted to become members of VDC was made.
After the attack, Dheeraj Sharma, the sarpanch of Dangri, had told that there was a village defence committee (VDC) in the area, but the police had taken back weapons from people above 60 years of age. Those weapons were not even re-allotted. If the VDC members had weapons, they would have given a befitting reply to the terrorists.
In the 1990s, the Jammu and Kashmir administration formed Village Security Committees to counter the increasing terrorist attacks in the hilly areas. Due to this, people were taught to use weapons to protect themselves and their loved ones. Local people were recruited into this committee and weapons were given to them.
Later, when the terrorist attacks stopped, the weapons were taken back from the members. Recently the name of VDC i.e. Village Defense Committee was changed to Village Defense Guard (VDG).
