Cricketers earned 5 crores for winning the T20 World Cup, but hockey players only received 15 lakhs
Paris Olympics 2024: Hockey India has announced a prize of Rs 15 lakh each to each player of the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics and Rs 7.5 lakh to each member of the support staff.
The Indian hockey team achieved this by performing brilliantly in the Paris Olympics 2024. Where the Indian team failed to change the color of the medal, it has done a great job of winning two consecutive bronze medals after quite a long break of about 52 years. The total wins by the Indian team have summed up to 13th and its fourth bronze medal in the history of the Olympics. This victory of Indian hockey has been celebrated by every village, city, and sports lover from Paris to India.
Further, Hockey India has also announced a prize of Rs 15 lakh each to be given to every player of the Indian hockey team for winning the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, and Rs 7.5 lakh to each member of the support staff.
Lauding the historic performance of the team, Hockey India President Dr Dilip Tirkey said, “This victory is a testament to the hard work, determination, and resilience of our players and support staff. Winning two consecutive Olympic medals is an extraordinary achievement that reflects the resurgence of Indian hockey on the world stage. On behalf of Hockey India, I congratulate the entire team and support staff for their exceptional performance and dedication. This prize money is in appreciation for their outstanding performance. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to PR Sreejesh for his stellar career and his invaluable contribution to Indian hockey. His legacy will inspire generations to come.”
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh said, “The Indian men’s hockey team has once again made the country proud with its remarkable achievement in Paris. The unity, skill, and perseverance of the team have brought joy to millions of hockey fans across the country. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to captain Harmanpreet Singh, the legendary PR Sreejesh, and the entire team for their historic achievement. Hockey India is committed to supporting our athletes and promoting the development of hockey in India.'
The matter of concern is that recently the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup 2024. Then the cricketers were given Rs 5 crore each. In comparison, this amount received by the hockey players is negligible.
