Corona attack on the heart: even after a year, the risk of heart attack, blood clotting

The coronavirus damages the tissue of the heart. Its patients are at risk of heart muscle swelling, irregular heartbeat, blood clots, stroke, heart attack and heart failure for at least one year after recovery. According to scientists from the University of Maryland in the US, this is due to the dangerous proteins of the virus.
Xie Han, involved in the research, says that the proteins of SARS-CoV-2, the original strain of corona, can damage the essential tissues of the body. This is similar to what happens during infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the Zika virus.
Scientists believe that even the vaccines and drugs that are being made to reduce the severity of corona worldwide cannot protect the heart and other organs from damage caused by infection.
Researchers used a drug to reverse the negative effect of a coronavirus protein on the heart. The name of the drug is Selinexor. It was used on the cells of bees and humans. The drug reduced the toxicity of one of the harmful proteins. Its name is Nsp6.
Research has found that Nsp6 is the most toxic protein of the corona for the bee heart. It occupies the heart cells of the bee. This starts the glycolysis process. In this, cells start consuming sugar glucose instead of fatty acids for energy. This process occurs only during heart failure. Nsp6 also damages mitochondria.
The drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) was used to block sugar metabolism in bees. This helped reduce the damage caused by Nsp6 to the heart and mitochondria. Scientists say that 2DG is an economical drug, so it is mostly used in lab research.
2DG has not been approved by the Food and Drug Association of America, but clinical trials are being conducted in India for the treatment of corona. Now that scientists know about Nsp6, it may be possible to find a cure for heart damage very soon.
