Confusion persists over Champions Trophy, ICC meeting postponed

After Team India refused to tour Pakistan, the important meeting of the ICC Board was postponed for a day regarding all the issues like a hybrid model or taking away the hosting from Pakistan. According to the report, this meeting was to be held on Friday at 4 pm but now it will be held on Saturday.

Former Pakistan cricketer and coach Rashid Latif gave this information through social media. He wrote a post on X "A decision will be taken tomorrow on Champions Trophy 2025."

The Pakistan Cricket Board has the right to host the Champions Trophy 2025. Despite India's refusal to tour Pakistan, the PCB is adamant about organizing the tournament. Due to Pakistan's adamant attitude, the situation regarding the organization of the Champions Trophy remains the same.

India is ready to play on the hybrid model for the tournament. The hybrid model means that most of the matches Pakistan will host in their country and India will play elsewhere. Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan under the hybrid model after India refused to travel to Pakistan last year. In this way, India played all its matches, including the semi-finals and finals of the Asia Cup, in Colombo. After India refused, a letter was written to ICC by PCB seeking clarification.

On the other hand, despite the uncertainties, the President of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, showed confidence in hosting the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996. Now, if Pakistan's rigid stance on not organizing the hybrid model continues, then it might be stripped of the Champions Trophy hosting rights. It should be noted that Pakistan has not hosted any ICC event since the 1996 World Cup.
