China furious over Trump's imposition of 10 percent tariff, warns of filing suit in WTO
China-US: China urged the US to correct its wrong decisions, confront issues directly, engage in frank dialogue, strengthen cooperation, and resolve differences on the basis of respect.
China's Foreign Ministry condemned the US decision to impose a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods. They protested against it and warned of retaliatory action to protect their legitimate rights and interests. America's tariff imposition, according to China, is a serious abuse of provisions under the World Wide Organization (WTO). China will seek a case with it in the WTO. In its view, such an act will not settle America's domestic problem and will not benefit any party in any form, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
According to Chinese media, China's Commerce Ministry issued a statement on Sunday saying that China will file a suit in the WTO against America's wrong decisions. The ministry further said, "China is completely dissatisfied with the tariff imposed by the US on Chinese goods and we strongly oppose it."
The ministry spokesperson said, "The tariff hike by the US side is a serious violation of the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This move cannot solve the problems of the US at the domestic level and most importantly, it does not benefit either of the two sides." The Chinese ministry said that the US administration's decision does not contribute to solving their own issues. This decision will also undermine the economic and trade cooperation between China and the US.
China urged the US to correct its wrong decisions, face the issues directly, engage in frank dialogue, strengthen cooperation, and resolve differences on the basis of respect. US President Donald Trump has decided to impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods, citing concerns over illegal immigration and smuggling of fentanyl drugs.
