Chennai: Search continues at DMK MP S Jagatrakshakan's residence for the second consecutive day, IT raided 40 locations
The Income Tax Department has continued searches at the premises of DMK MP and former Union Minister S Jagatrakshakan in Chennai for the second consecutive day. The DMK MP is in his residence during this search operation. The Income Tax Department conducted searches at more than 40 locations linked to the former Union Minister. Jagatrakshakan has been the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The Income Tax Department has continued its searches at the premises of DMK MP and former Union Minister S Jagatrakshakan in Chennai. The DMK MP is in his residence during this search operation. This is the second day of IT searches at the DMK MP's premises.
On Thursday, the Income Tax Department searched more than 40 locations linked to the former Union Minister. During the IT operation, two liquor distilleries operating in the Devariyambakkam and Ilainarvelur areas of Kanchipuram and the house of DMK MP's cousin Kuppan at Walajabad in Kanchipuram were also searched.
Searches were also conducted at Balaji and Relay hospitals in Chromepet, Chennai. These hospitals are owned by DMK MP S Jagatrakshakan. Jagatrakshakan is a member of the current Lok Sabha and was elected from the Arakkonam Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 parliamentary election. Jagatrakshakan has been the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Meanwhile, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson TKS Elangovan accused the BJP of indulging in vendetta politics.
He said, "It is very clear that this is a political vendetta. The people of Tamil Nadu know how many AIADMK people, supported by the BJP, are running colleges and institutions. There is no authority in those institutions. These people want to terrorize the opposition parties. They are all misusing their powers. They are not fit to rule the country. BJP is a barbaric class of people who do not respect the Constitution, who do not respect any law, Who can do anything for their own benefit."
The DMK spokesperson asked, "Why aren't raids conducted on people supporting the BJP?" Congress MP Manikam Tagore also targeted the BJP and described IT and ED as frontal organizations of the Bharatiya Janata Party. "IT and ED have become frontal organizations for the BJP. They are conducting IT raids on the premises of DMK MP Jagatrakshakan in Chennai. This is a calculated politics and this is their political revenge," he said.
"ED and IT reach the premises of those who are against BJP. Those who come with them, they get cleaned in washing machines," he said. On Income Tax Department searches at the premises of DMK MP S Jagatrakshakan, Congress MP Manickam Tagore said, "People will not accept this politics of PM Modi and Amit Shah."
