With the advent of the festive season in India, celebrated actress Charrul Malik reflects on the myriad ways in which different Indian cities mark these joyous occasions. Known for her role in "Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai," Charrul believes that festivals breathe life into India, blending a tapestry of traditions and celebrations. While she relishes the festive spirit in Mumbai, her hometown holds a special place in her heart due to its distinctive ambiance and ornate decorations.
"In Mumbai, the festive spirit is not absent, but I find myself yearning for the ambiance of my native city. Mumbai lacks that collective celebration vibe. The neighborhoods here are more spread out, making it challenging to pinpoint a specific area where the true festival atmosphere thrives. While shopping at a mall, you may encounter splendid decorations, but they persist year-round. There isn't one central place that encapsulates the festival's essence. I vividly recall the unique decorations I always witnessed in Chandigarh. I genuinely miss that special festive atmosphere of the city," she warmly recalls.
When discussing Navratri, Charrul remarks, "It is celebrated on a grand scale in Maharashtra and, in fact, not just there but in various other regions as well. Gujarat stands out for its Garba and Dandiya traditions, and if you wish to truly experience it, you must visit there. The way they celebrate this festival is nothing short of spectacular. On the flip side, Durga Pooja takes center stage in Kolkata, celebrated grandly. Other festivals, like Karwa Chauth, are more prominent in the North. Speaking specifically of Diwali, it is celebrated in a distinct manner in Mumbai, and I've had the privilege of witnessing that. Each city has its unique atmosphere. Punjab has its own, Mumbai has its own. Therefore, state-specific festivals are celebrated with grandeur. In smaller cities, you have the opportunity to explore popular spots where each festival is celebrated extensively. Unfortunately, in Mumbai, even if you have the chance, it's not as easy. People are preoccupied with their own lives, and everything is already well-arranged. Thus, every city imparts a different flavor to the festivities."
Charrul also underscores the positivity and dynamism that the festive season ushers in, noting, "The festive season undoubtedly brings an upsurge of positivity and energy. It lightens the mood and rejuvenates one's spirits. The festivities of Dussehra and Diwali mark the commencement of the new year, which has already begun and will be celebrated until December. This period is perfect for shopping, with numerous clothing, furniture, and other item deals and offers, making it incredibly enjoyable. This season, heralding the year's end, is my personal favorite. I seize the opportunity to shop extensively, something I wouldn't want to miss."
Furthermore, she emphasizes the importance of spending quality time with family during these celebrations, saying, "For festive celebrations, the company you keep matters significantly. There's no better company than that of your family and close friends. It's not something you can celebrate with just anyone. It's all about the people you share these moments with. Notably, we often don't spend enough time with our families, so this is the ideal time to come together and celebrate."
When asked about her favorite festival, Charrul shares, "My favorite is Diwali, and I eagerly anticipate its arrival. It marks the close of the year, and people celebrate it by illuminating candles and diyas, creating a stunning display of lights. The best part is the abundance of shopping opportunities due to significant discounts on various items. Diwali, the festival of lights, infuses an abundance of positivity into life and is a time of great joy."
