Center alert as over 70 planes including Air India received bomb threats
Flights Bomb Threats: More than 70 planes received bomb threats on Thursday. Many flights including Air India, Vistara, and Indigo are included. After receiving the threat, the planes were sent for checking in isolation. In the last 11 days, more than 250 planes have received bomb threats. After these threats, the central government has become alert.
These days bomb threats in planes are increasing day by day. On Thursday, over 70 Indian planes received bomb threats. Some flights were diverted after being alerted to the threat, while others were landed and searched properly before being transported to the isolation bay. However, these threats seemed to be fake after an investigation.
As per Jagran, there have been bomb threats on approximately 14 aircraft operated by Akash Air and 20 flights operated by Air India, Vistara, and Indigo. Bomb threats have been sent to almost 250 Indian Airlines planes in the last 11 days.
A spokesperson of Akasa Air said, "Some flights scheduled to operate on October 24 have received bomb threats. Akasa Air's Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in contact with security and regulatory authorities. We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities."
Early this week, Civil Aviation Minister K Ramamohan Naidu had said that to tackle cases of bomb threats to airlines, the government proposes to take legislative action, including putting those making such threats on the no-fly list.
For some time now, flights of Indian airlines have been receiving constant bomb threats. Many of these threats have been given through Elon Musk-owned internet media platform X. Now the Ministry of Information Technology has reprimanded X and asked what steps have been taken to prevent the spread of such rumors?
Notably, the relations of the Indian government with the social media handle X have oscillated between good and bad in the past also. The Government has even approached the court against X on the issue of removal of the controversial post. Government has warned the officials of X that they will have to follow local laws.
In view of bomb threats to planes, there was a virtual meeting called by the central government presided over by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology Sanket S Bhondve, on Wednesday. Representatives from the aviation companies and internet media platforms like X and Meta were present at the virtual meeting.
