CEC Rajeev Kumar said on Congress's allegation: Election Commission has never acted on anyone's advice, nor will it ever
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar said on Tuesday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has never acted on anyone's instructions and will never do so. This is not a new thing for us, we have to hear such words. It is our record that we have never acted on anyone's instructions. No one can impose anything on us.
CEC Rajeev Kumar, EC Anoop Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal had reached Assam to take stock of the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. Explain that the Congress had alleged that the ECI was working at the behest of the BJP for the delimitation of 126 assemblies and 14 parliamentary seats in Assam.
CEC Rajeev Kumar said that whether it is an election process or delimitation, all decisions and reasons are made public. Participation in political parties is ensured at all levels. In case of delimitation also the draft will be published and a discussion will be held again.
The Congress refused to meet the Election Commission team and present its representation on the proposed delimitation. State Congress President Bhupen Kumar Bora accused the ECI of fixing the elections. It also alleged that the panel of the Election Commission has spread in answering the questions raised.
Bora said that almost all the opposition parties have the same allegation that the BJP is trying to reduce the Muslim majority seats in Assam for its own benefit and to make religion an issue.
