In observance of the directives of the Calcutta High Court, CCTV cameras were erected outside the home of Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh, who is currently on the run. The court ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at his Sandeshkhali home's main gate and other locations on Tuesday. The border with Bangladesh is only a few km away from Shahjahan Sheikh's home.

The court on Tuesday had asked the state to ensure that CCTV cameras are installed outside the residence of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh as soon as possible. A lookout notice has been issued against Shahjahan by ED. A police officer said, 'We are making every possible effort to nab the accused.'

Shahjahan Sheikh's brother told the media that he came to know about the CCTV camera when the police asked him for help in getting an electricity connection to run the equipment. He said, 'I have also installed such cameras at my home for security reasons.'

In connection with the ration distribution scam investigation, ED agents raided TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh's home on January 5. The TMC leader's followers fought the officers during the raid. This event resulted in the injuries of three ED officers. In connection with the West Bengal ration distribution fraud, Minister of State Jyotipriya Mallik has been placed under arrest.
