BSNL officials indulged in corruption in connivance with the contractor: CBI registers case against 21 officials, raids 25 places
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided 25 locations of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials in a corruption case. The investigating agency said on Friday that a case has been registered against the officials of BSNL Assam Circle in the matter of corruption. This includes 21 officers including the former General Manager, Deputy General Manager, and Assistant General Manager.
The probe agency has carried out searches at 25 places including the houses and offices of the accused in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Haryana.
According to the probe agency, these accused conspired with a contractor to cheat BSNL. So far, the CBI has registered FIRs in this case against the officers of Jorhat, Sibsagar, Guwahati, and other places. According to CBI officials, a case has also been registered in the name of an individual in this matter.
On Friday, the CBI issued a statement saying, 'The contractor was ordered to lay the National Optical Fiber Network cable at the rate of Rs 90 thousand per kilometer through the open trenching method. In this, a loss of about Rs 22 crore has been caused to BSNL by manipulating the terms of the contract.
