BSF foils cattle smuggling on India-Bangladesh border, miscreants escape after fatally attacking a jawan

News related to smuggling keeps coming up every day on the Bangladesh border adjoining India. Now Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have foiled an attempt to smuggle cattle across the international border in West Bengal. It has been reported that cattle were being smuggled by some citizens of Bangladesh.

The 146th battalion personnel carried out this action at the Madhubani border post in West Bengal's Barhampur sector. The jawans saw five people doing suspicious activities on the spot early Sunday morning. They were trying to cross the unfenced area of the international border with cattle and enter India.

When the BSF warned, the smugglers threatened the jawans with sharp weapons in their hands. When a soldier fired in retaliation, the miscreants surrounded the soldier. After this, they attacked the soldier with sharp weapons. The statement said that the soldier fired two rounds in self-defense. After this, the miscreants took advantage of the darkness and tall crops in the fields and fled back towards Bangladesh. The BSF has recovered two cattle and sharp weapons from the spot. Officials say that there is no report of any miscreant being injured in the firing.

Similar instances had occurred previously as well. At the Lodhia border crossing in Malda, soldiers from the 70th battalion observed approximately 15 Bangladeshis strolling around. They also held sharp weapons in their hands. As soon as the smugglers attempted to enter India, BSF jawans shot shock grenades to warn them. During that period, the intruders also attacked the soldiers with sharp weapons. Following this, the BSF jawans opened fire in reprisal. Following this, the smugglers took advantage of the darkness and fled to Bangladesh.
