Jet Airways: The bench of Justice NJ Jamdar, while accepting the plea for interim bail of two months, said that Goyal will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh as surety. Along with this, he will have to get permission from the trial court to go out of Mumbai.
The Bombay High Court on Monday granted two months interim bail to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal on medical grounds. Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. The bench of Justice NJ Jamdar, while accepting the plea for interim bail of two months, said that Goyal will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh as surety. Along with this, he will have to get permission from the trial court to go out of Mumbai.
Goyal has also been ordered to give up his passport by the High Court.
Goyal, 75, had requested temporary bail citing humanitarian and medical reasons. He had disclosed to the court that he and his spouse, Anita Goyal, were both afflicted with cancer. Goyal's bail plea was denied by a special court earlier in February. But the court had granted him permission to receive care at any private hospital of his choosing.
After that Goyal had applied for bail in the High Court. He had asked the court to release him on medical grounds. His lawyer Harish Salve had appealed to the court that Goyal should be granted interim bail in view of his health condition. However, Hiten Vengaonkar, who appeared in the court on behalf of ED, had opposed Goyal's appeal. He had said that by not granting bail to Goyal, his hospitalization period could be extended.
