The conference will bring together approximately 500 senior mayors, ministers, high-ranking officials, development partners, and various stakeholders from the 56 member states of the Commonwealth.
Hyderabad: BJP Leader Ms. Karuna Gopal Vartakavi has received an esteemed invitation to deliver the Plenary Keynote Address at the Commonwealth Local Government Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, SOUTH AFRICA. This notable invitation was extended by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) in London, UK. The Government of Rwanda is hosting this conference, which is scheduled for November 2023.
The Commonwealth Local Government Conference is the flagship event of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), an organization within the Commonwealth that is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the 2.6 billion citizens across member countries. The conference's theme for 2023 is "Building Resilience Across the Commonwealth."
The conference will bring together approximately 500 senior mayors, ministers, high-ranking officials, development partners, and various stakeholders from the 56 member states of the Commonwealth. The event will feature distinguished speakers from governments, development agencies, civil society, and the private sector.
In the official invitation letter, it was stated, "We would be honored to have Ms. Gopal as a Plenary Keynote Speaker, given her extensive international expertise in People-Centric Governance, Sustainable Cities, Innovation, and Technology."
The CLGF serves as a global platform for discussing crucial issues related to city governments and plays a significant role in shaping global policies. The recommendations and outcomes of this conference will be presented at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Expressing her thoughts on this honor, Ms. Karuna Gopal Vartakavi stated, "I am delighted to represent India, which is the fourth largest contributor to the overall Commonwealth budget. As the CLGF engages directly with the United Nations, Commonwealth Heads of Government, and the European Union on global policy matters, India's voice, often regarded as the 'VOICE OF GLOBAL SOUTH,' will be amplified."
Furthermore, CLGF and its Commonwealth partners have initiated the Call to Action on 'Sustainable Urbanisation in the Commonwealth.' This initiative seeks to prioritize addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and the adverse impacts of climate change—areas in which Ms. Vartakavi has extensive expertise.
