BJP gets 'majority', yet the mayor decided by Congress government is handling the urban government

The BJP has a majority on the board of the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation, but Sheel Dhabhai, the mayor decided by the Congress government, is holding the chair in the mayor's corporation. Although Sheel Dhabhai is a corporation of the BJP itself, BJP is not an authorized mayor candidate and BJP has not yet given consent for his appointment. The name of the new mayor contender could not be decided in the last year even after controversies due to the mutual tussle and factionalism between the top BJP leaders and councillors.
Congress also extended the work last year by appointing Sheel Dhabhai as mayor. A group of BJP councillors had also opposed this. BJP city president Raghav Sharma says that the state leadership has formed a committee for the mayor. This committee will take the decision. Here, Deputy District Election Officer Amrita Chaudhary says that at present no information has come from the Election Department regarding the election of the mayor.
Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation has 150 wards. BJP has 88 councillors. Out of this, four BJP corporators have been sacked. BJP MLAs Kalicharan Saraf, Narpat Singh Rajvi and Ashok Lahoti want to be made mayors of their area. While most of the BJP councillors are in favour of keeping the current mayor Sheel Dhabhai in place, a section is internally lobbying for a new mayor. Last year also a meeting of about 50 councillors was held in a hotel. Present Mayor Sheel Dhabhai, Councilor Rashmi Saini, Raju Devi Saini, Sukhpreet Bansal, Sanju Chaudhary, and Bharti Lakhyani are also being claimed as mayor's contenders. It is being told that if the BJP's mayor is not able to become the mayor due to internal rebellion, then the state and city officials will be tarnished at the national level. In such a situation, the decision is postponed for the time being.
BJP councillor Soumya Gurjar was made mayor in November 2020. On June 6, the government suspended Soumya Gurjar, two chairmen and a councillor after a difference of opinion with the commissioner in the cleaning company's dispute case. Then the Congress government made BJP councillor Sheel Dhabhai the mayor. On January 2022, Soumya took over again. Following the Supreme Court's order, the government dismissed Soumya on 27 September.
