By-elections in Dhanpur located in Sonampura sub-division and Boxanagar assembly constituencies of Sipahijala district of Tripura are scheduled to be held on September 5 and the counting of votes will take place on September 8.
BJP nominated Tafazzal Hussain for the Boxanagar assembly seat and Bindu Debnath for the Dhanpur constituency. Hussain is a local leader of Boxanagar while Debnath is the divisional president of the party in Dhanpur.
The by-election in the Boxanagar constituency was necessitated by the death of CPI(M) MLA Samsul Haque. Due to the resignation of Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik from the post of MLA of Dhanpur, it became necessary to conduct a by-election on that seat.
