Big success for Jammu and Kashmir Police, 425 drug smugglers arrested from Baramulla

Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved great success. Police in Baramulla district have arrested 425 drug smugglers, including 69 notorious smugglers, during this year. 242 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Phototrophic Substances Act. Till October 31, police have registered 242 cases under the NDPS Act, resulting in the arrest of 425 drug smugglers, the police said. The smugglers include 69 hard-core drug smugglers who have been booked under PIT NDPS and Public Safety Act (PSA).

Police said that property worth crores of drug smugglers has also been confiscated. The police have also made a huge seizure of drugs worth crores of rupees in the black market. Police have seized property worth Rs 2.3 crore of drug smugglers, which includes three houses, three vehicles and cash worth Rs 1.2 crore has also been confiscated by the police.

Baramulla Police has achieved remarkable success in its sustained campaign against drug trafficking. The number of registered cases has declined significantly in recent months. During the first half of the year, from January to June, cases increased, with the number rising from 10 to 40 in April alone.

However, 18 cases were reported in the month of July, followed by 15 in August, 18 cases in September, and another 11 cases in October. Police also seized 2.670 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 3.47 crore, heroin worth Rs 6.33 crore, hashish worth Rs 59.04 crore, pomegranate husk and cannabis powder worth Rs 1.29 crore during this period.

Thirty-one vehicles and cash worth Rs 1.13 crore were also seized from drug smugglers during this period, police said. He said, the citizens of the district have shown immense confidence and satisfaction in the police action against drugs and have expressed their full support to the police.
