Big responsibility given by BCB to former Pakistan cricketer, joining Bangladesh cricket team soon
Umar Gul: Bangladesh will tour Pakistan in May 2025 for a series of five T20 International matches, where former Pakistani fast bowler Gul will join the team.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has chosen to assign a major responsibility to Umar Gul, a former Pakistan pace bowler. Actually, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has suggested the appointment of Umar Gul as bowling coach prior to the tour of Pakistan by the Bangladesh cricket team in May. The board has made a plan to sign him on a contract lasting until the 2027 World Cup, but at first, a contract will be provided to him just for a three-month duration. Based on the performance of the Bangladesh cricket team in Pakistan, later both the parties will be able to sign a contract till the 2027 World Cup with mutual consent. Umar Gul himself has given information about this offer received from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. In this regard, he said, "This is a good offer and I am waiting for it."
Umar Gul, who made his mark as a leading bowler with 163 Test, 179 ODI, and 85 T20 International wickets in his career, played a key role in Pakistan's victory in the T20 World Cup in 2009. Earlier, he served as a bowling coach to the Afghanistan and Pakistan cricket teams. He has also been the bowling coach of Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Bangladesh is scheduled to tour Pakistan for five T20 Internationals in May this year. Gul will start his tenure with this series. The news of Umar Gul becoming Bangladesh's bowling coach has not been good in Pakistan cricket, especially not at all given his recent performance in white ball cricket. This feeling is also gaining ground because while Pakistan's bowlers are struggling for proper coaching and guidance, their experts are being appointed by other countries. Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is Bangladesh's regular spin-bowling coach.
Bangladesh was earlier scheduled to tour Pakistan for three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals in May. However, after discussions between the two boards, it was decided to revise the series to five T20 Internationals because of preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026.
