Bangladeshi coach suspended: Accused of dishonesty in the World Cup, and slapped a player
Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe was suspended: Sri Lanka's Hathurusinghe was also accused of slapping a player during the ODI World Cup 2023. The board investigated it and he has been found guilty. This is also one of the main reasons for his dismissal.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made a big decision by suspending the team's head coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe. He has been suspended for 48 hours for violating discipline, after which he will be dismissed immediately. Apart from that, the board has issued him a show cause notice and appointed Phil Simmons as interim coach until the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Hathurusinghe of Sri Lanka has also been accused of slapping a player during the 2023 ODI World Cup. The board investigated, and he was found guilty. This is one of the primary reasons for his dismissal. According to Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo, the BCB accused him of cheating in the 2023 World Cup. Aside from that, Hathurusinghe has faced harsh criticism for taking more than 45 leaves in a year and violating the rules.
In February 2023, Hathurusinghe was appointed head coach of Bangladesh once more. He served until the Champions Trophy of 2025. Bangladesh under the captaincy of Hathurusinghe, 56, fared terribly in both the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup this year. Hathurusinghe previously served as Bangladesh's coach from 2014 to 2017. The team then performed admirably in the T20 and ODI formats. However, during the second tenure, nothing comparable occurred.
Before becoming a coach, 56-year-old Hathurusinghe as a player has played 26 Tests and 35 ODIs. During this, he scored 1343 runs and took 31 wickets.
