The arrested person was identified as 44-year-old Hussain Basha, while his 24-year-old companion Saibaba is said to be absconding. Both are residents of the Tekkala Pattana area of the district.
According to the police, on July 18, the accused targeted devotees walking towards the Hindu pilgrimage site 'Mantralaya'. The Hindu devotees were waving saffron flags in their hands. The accused allegedly stopped them and started preaching about Islam and insisted that they leave Hinduism.
Later, a complaint was lodged at the Tekkalkote police station by a Hindu devotee, Gadilingappa. He also furnished the video clip of the alleged conversion attempt. Hindu devotees expressed concern over the incident, and the police have initiated an investigation.
A case of abduction and conversion of a minor girl from Chhattisgarh had come to light earlier. She was being held hostage in the Hamirpur district of the state itself. She was raped by three people. After this, they forcibly converted her religion and married her. A case was registered at the police station on the basis of a complaint that came to light. Two Muslim youths have also been arrested in this sensational case.
