Asia's biggest helicopter factory is ready. On February 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over the helicopter factory of HAL to the nation in Tumakuru, Karnataka. It is a greenfield helicopter factory, which will enhance the helicopter manufacturing capacity and eco-system. Defense Ministry told that in the next 20 years, more than 1000 helicopters will be made here with a turnover of 4 lakh crores.
The 615-acre factory will initially produce Light Utility Helicopters (LUH). The LUH is an indigenously designed and developed 3-tonne class single-engine helicopter. Initially, about 30 helicopters will be made in this factory every year. Then every year its capacity can be increased at the rate of 60 to 90 helicopters. Officials said that the LUH has been flight tested.
There are also plans to manufacture the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and the Indian Multirole Helicopter (IMRH) here after the LUH. Apart from this, LCH, LUH, Civil ALH and IMRH will also be repaired. The Ministry of Defense said that about 6000 people in the state will get employment from this factory. Apart from this, with the starting of the factory, there will be development in the surrounding areas as well. On February 6 itself, the PM will inaugurate the India Energy Week 2023 in Bengaluru.
