The issue of the water agreement dispute between Rajasthan and Punjab once again echoed in the assembly. The government was questioned by BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf during the assembly on Wednesday regarding the agreement that was reached on 31 December 1981 to claim the water quota of Rajasthan from the river Ravi-Beas. Saraf further mentioned that the government of Punjab presented a new agreement act in its assembly and repealed the water agreement given to Rajasthan. The government of Rajasthan approached the Supreme Court about this. The Supreme Court annulled this agreement act.

On behalf of the government, Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat told the assembly that currently Rajasthan is getting 8 MF water under the Ravi-Beas agreement, whereas the agreement was for 8.7 MF. He said that the previous governments also raised this issue several times with the Punjab government and Northern Zonal Council for compliance with this agreement. He said that recently the state government has again written a letter to the Northern Zonal Council in this regard.

On this, Saraf said that in this matter the government should try to appoint a representative of Rajasthan to the Bakhra Nangal Board. Along with this, he said that an ACS-level nodal officer should also be appointed to take this matter forward. On this, the Water Resources Minister said that the government will consider it.
