Apple doubles iPhone production in India, every seventh iPhone made in India

Made in India: The purpose of the PLI scheme was to promote domestic manufacturing. Apple doubles iPhone production in India, every seventh iPhone made in India

Apple has been producing iPhones in India since 2017, but at that time it was not expected that Apple would produce more iPhones in India than in China. You will be surprised to know that Apple has doubled the production of iPhones in India. In such a situation, India has become the second alternative for Apple after China. Last year, Apple assembled iPhones worth Rs 14 billion in India.

Bloomberg has given this information in its report. The report says that one out of every seven iPhones is made in India, which means Apple produces about 14 per cent of its iPhones in India. In such a situation, it can be said that Apple is slowly eliminating its dependence on China.

Production Linked Incentives (PLI) offered by the Indian government have proven to be very beneficial to tech companies. In 2017, Apple moved its iPhone production to India. Even though Apple now assembles its largest iPhone model in India, ten years ago almost no one would have imagined that the iPhone would be made there.

Promoting homegrown manufacturing was the aim of the PLI programme. This means that the government offers financial incentives for the production of mobile phones and the parts that go into them, such as assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) units. By promoting exports, this plan will decrease imports.
