The HMPV virus is spreading fast in the country. Now, for the second time in Guwahati, Assam, a case of HMPV has been detected. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection was detected in a 75-year-old woman from Guwahati, the second such case this season in Assam.

The woman is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, an official of the health facility has given this information. Giving information about the case, the official further said that the woman has been kept in isolation and her condition is stable. However, there was no official confirmation from the state government.

Giving further information about the case, a hospital official said, 'The woman was admitted to our hospital a few days ago and HMPV infection was detected during a routine checkup.'

A 10-month-old baby was the first child to be diagnosed with the infection of HMPV in the state this season. According to reports, the child hailing from Lakhimpur was earlier month undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

Human metapneumovirus is one of several viruses that infect persons of all age groups and variably cause respiratory infections chiefly during the months of winter or early spring. The infection thus caused by viruses is usually not serious, as most such subjects recover on their own.
