Another case of HMPV Virus: A 10-month-old child found positive in Assam
HMPV virus in Assam: Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection has been detected in a 10-month-old child in Assam. The child is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and his condition is now stable. AMCH Superintendent Dr. Bhuiyan said that the child was admitted to the government hospital four days ago due to symptoms of cold and cough.
Cases of HMPV virus are increasing rapidly in India. Now a new case of this has come to light in Assam. On Saturday, officials said that a Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection had been detected in a 10-month-old child.
Officials said that the child is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and his condition is now stable.
AMCH Superintendent Dr. Dhrubjyoti Bhuiyan said that the child was admitted to the government hospital four days ago due to symptoms of cold and cough.
The hospital superintendent said that the HMPV infection was confirmed yesterday after receiving the test results from ICMR-RMRC, Lahowal. Bhuiyan said that samples are regularly sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research for testing in influenza and flu-related cases, and this report came in that.
Dhrubjyoti Bhuiyan further said that this was a routine test, during which the HMPV infection was detected. The child is now stable. It is a common virus and there is nothing to worry about.
However, Dr. Biswajit Borkakoti, Senior Scientist, ICMR- Regional Medical Research Center Lahowal (Dibrugarh) said that since 2014, we have detected 110 HMPV cases in Dibrugarh district. This is the first case of this season. It is detected every year and there is nothing new in it.
The cases of the HMPV virus have grown multifold across the country. Till now 13 cases are reported. Its case has been found in as many as several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Kerala.
