Announcement of by-elections in bodies and panchayats: 14 wards lying vacant in 14 bodies, voting on May 7 for the election of 48 sarpanches
In Rajasthan, by-elections will be held next month on vacant seats in rural and urban governments. The State Election Commission has issued a program for this. These elections will be held on vacant wards and posts of sarpanch-up-sarpanch in urban bodies (municipality, municipal corporation, city council), district council, panchayat samiti and gram panchayat.
Chief Electoral Officer Chitra Gupta said that apart from 14 wards lying vacant in 14 municipalities of 12 districts, elections would be held in one ward each of Ajmer, Jhalawar, Dungarpur and Bharatpur Zilla Parishads. Similarly, elections will be held for a total of 24 wards, 48 Gram Panchayat Sarpanch posts, 57 Gram Panchayat Deputy Sarpanch posts and 471 Ward Panch lying vacant in Panchayat Samitis of different districts.
He informed that the notification for the election on vacant wards in the urban body will be issued on April 21 and nomination papers will be filled by April 25. Voting will be done on May 7 and the result will be released after counting on May 8. Similarly, notification will be issued on April 17 for the by-elections to be held on vacant wards in Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis. Nomination papers will be filled till April 25 and voting will be held on May 7. The counting of votes will be done the next day i.e. on May 8 and the result will be released.
Apart from this, nominations will be taken till April 30 by issuing a notification for the post of Sarpanch and Ward Panch in Gram Panchayats on April 17. On May 7, voting will be done from 8 am to 5 pm and after the voting is over, the counting of votes will start immediately and the results will be released till late evening. The next day i.e. on May 8, the process of election for the Deputy Sarpanch will be done.
