Andhra Pradesh: Naidu did not get relief in skill development scam case, remand extended till November 1

The ACB court on Thursday extended the remand of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu till November 1 in the alleged multi-crore skill development scam case. Chandrababu Naidu was produced before the court virtually from Rajahmundry Central Jail.

The former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP chief was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on September 9 in a multi-crore skills development scam case, triggering political turmoil in the state with several TDP leaders blaming the arrest. TDP leaders had alleged that it was nothing but a political 'witch-hunt' and Naidu was caught on the basis of false charges.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court reserved its decision on Chandrababu Naidu's petition seeking the cancellation of the FIR registered against him in the skill development scam case. Naidu had approached the Supreme Court demanding quashing of the FIR.

He had cited Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, to challenge his arrest by the CID of Andhra Pradesh Police in the skill development scam in the top court. He had challenged the High Court's decision to reject the petition to cancel the FIR. Naidu is currently in judicial custody.

Naidu has sought quashing of the FIR lodged by AP-CID in the alleged Rs 371 crore skill development scam on the grounds that the police had not obtained prior approval from the Governor, as mandated under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.
