Anand Mahindra, one of India's top industrialists, has turned 68 today. Be it the automobile industry or software company, today the business of Mahindra Group has spread to more than 100 countries. Anand Mahindra is currently the chairman of the Mahindra Group. There are 137 companies in the Mahindra Group.
Anand Mahindra, the current chairman of the Mahindra Group, has business interests ranging from auto, information technology to real estate. Mahindra Group operates a total of 22 industries. According to Forbes, the total assets of Anand Mahindra are $2.1 billion i.e. around Rs 17,000 crore. Anand Mahindra is at number 1460 on the Forbes list of billionaires.
Anand Mahindra became the MD of the group in 1997. Anand, a Harvard Business School graduate, probably knew then that it is not possible to take the group to new heights without venturing into new business. Sensing the changing business environment in the country, Anand Mahindra focused on the auto industry.
He assigned his engineers who had worked on this project to develop the concept of a Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) for the Indian market. His attempt was successful. Mahindra introduced its first MUV in the Indian market in 2002 with the name Scorpio. It was a fully developed car in India. After the success of Scorpio, Anand never looked back.
During the graduation ceremony at MIT, Anand Mahindra said that if you want to be successful not only in business but also in life, then humility is the first condition. If you are not polite, first you stop listening. If you stop listening, you will stop learning. The world is very fast and volatile. You can't know everything.
