Government working on reducing logistics cost: Amit Shah said in Assoc ham's annual session - will bring down logistics cost from 13% to 7.5%
The government is working to bring down the logistics cost from the current 13% to 7.5% of GDP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said this while addressing the annual session of Assocham on Tuesday. He said development is not possible without the country's infrastructure development and reduction in logistics costs.
Amit Shah said that logistics cost in India is 13% of GDP as compared to 8% in the rest of the world, making it difficult for Indian exports to compete globally. We have to bridge the gap between 8% and 13%, he said. We have prepared a roadmap for the next 5 years. I can assure you that we will reach 7.5% logistics cost in the next 5 years.
Shah said the government plans to invest Rs 100 lakh crore in infrastructure, which includes a doubling of railway lines, their widening, Mumbai to Delhi and Amritsar to Kolkata, besides 11 other industrial corridors, to name a few. Shah said that the government has laid a strong foundation to make India a developed nation by 2047.
Taking a jibe at former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Shah said that while Modi was giving details of the Digital India scheme, the Congress leader was raising questions. He was asking how a small amount would be paid to a street vendor. Will there be electricity and broadband for transactions in villages? He said, now UPI is being used by almost every business.
Shah said, 'UPI will contribute 52% of the 8,840 crore digital transactions in 2022, which is Rs 1.26 lakh crore.'
