American Express appoints Sharon Chew as Vice President & General Manager of Global Merchant Services Asia
Sharon, who initially joined American Express in 2004, has held various leadership positions over the past 16 years, contributing to consumer and network businesses.
American Express has just named Sharon Chew as the Vice President & General Manager of Global Merchant Services Asia. In her new role, Sharon will be overseeing everything related to card acceptance, from payments processing to client management, merchant partnerships, and the development of new payment technology. Her focus will be on boosting the acceptance of American Express cards in the Asia region, covering markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and India.
Werner Decker, the Executive Vice President & General Manager of GMS International at American Express, shared insights into the appointment, stating, "We're making significant strides in our goal to increase American Express card acceptance, especially for our high-spending customers. Sharon's extensive experience in the Asian payments landscape will be instrumental in advancing digital services and improving card acceptance."

She has led product and marketing efforts, supporting issuers and bank partners across 17 markets in Asia. Before returning to American Express, Sharon served as the General Manager for loyalty solutions for Asia-Pacific at Mastercard, overseeing loyalty engagement across a range of regions.
With a wealth of experience exceeding two decades in the payments industry, Sharon has successfully led large-scale projects and business transformations. Her track record demonstrates effective leadership and results across local, regional, and global teams.
