The US issued 125,000 visas to Indian students last year, a senior administration official said ahead of the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden at the White House here on Thursday. "It's good for the people of India, good for the people of the United States, really good for our businesses," the official said.
He further said that the United States Department of State is going to launch a pilot later this year to decide on domestic renewals of some petition-based temporary work visas, with the intention of extending the same to Indian nationals. After this, now Indians living in America will not have to come to India even if they do not want to renew their Visa.
Some categories of nonimmigrant visas, notably the H-1B, could be renewed or stamped inside the US. Thereafter, for renewal of these visas, especially for H-1B visas, foreign technical workers have to go back to their home country to get the H-1B extension stamped on their passports. H-1B visa is issued for three years at a time.
