After winning the Malaysia Masters, Prannoy said: had given up hope of winning the trophy

Star Indian shuttler HS Prannoy defeated China's Wang Hongyang 21-19, 13-21, 21-18 to clinch the Malaysia Masters title on Sunday. However, there was a time when Prannoy, touted as India's young talent, could not make it to the title match. He used to defeat the big players of the tournament, so he was called "Giant Killer". Despite this, he could not reach the title match.
Prannoy's last major tournament win was at the US Open in 2017. In the same 2017 Indonesia Open, he defeated three-time Olympic silver medalist Lee Chong Wei and Olympic champion Chen Long in two consecutive days. However, he lost to his own countryman Kidambi Srikanth in this tournament. After this, the same story was repeated many times in the tournament. Pranay says that on such days he had to face many problems. He used to raise questions about himself.
He explains, “I got very emotional after losing the World Championship. I knew I had a good chance to win this tournament. However, the loss broke my heart and made me feel like I was not cut out for title matches. I am not destined to play in big tournaments. However, he soon put this disappointment behind him and worked on his training process.
He explains, “Despite years of title drought, I felt that victory was just around the corner. I never gave up hope of winning.’ He talks about how only five good days are needed to win a tournament. Also, he believes that luck has also played a part in his game. He also gives credit to psychological training in this title win of the Malaysia Open. He told that he was not interested in doing mental training every day and he did not like to just sit quietly and pay attention to his breath. Despite this, he used to do psychological training every day, which helped him to increase his concentration in the crucial moments of the match.
